Education

People are our greatest resource. They are the reason our area is an attractive industrial, commercial and residential center.  Education, in turn, is the reason Iowa City area residents have developed their unique blend of intellectual and industrial productivity.

According to the 2000 Census, Iowa City is the third most educated metropolitan community in the country.  More than 48 percent of Iowa City residents, age 25 years and older, have completed four or more years of college education.

The Iowa City Community School District was named the No. 5 best public school district in the nation by Expansion Management magazine. The praise, featured in an April 2005 magazine article, “Which Metro Areas Have the Best Public Education Systems,” describes a growing demand for skilled workers.
