Education
Life-long Learning Opportunities for AllEducation and Iowa are inseparable. It’s a connection that stretches back to the days when Iowa was a territory. Our commitment endures in the state’s commemorative U.S. quarter that symbolizes for all that education is entwined in Iowa’s past, present and future. Iowa’s commitment to quality of life is best exemplified in our commitment to education. The state is the birthplace of the nationally recognized Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and Iowa Test of Educational Development, two nationally-known aptitude tests for K-12 students, and home of the ACT collegiate entrance exam, headquartered in Iowa City. Education in the Iowa City area is among the very best in the nation and the area offers many opportunities for life-long learning. The state and our area represent a first-rate, skilled workforce, which also reflects the quality of our education. Our region is home to more than 50,000 students enrolled in post-secondary education. Our people are our greatest asset – they are the reason the Iowa City area is an attractive industrial, commercial and residential center. People are our greatest
resource. They are the reason our area is an attractive industrial,
commercial and residential center.
Education, in turn, is the reason Iowa City area residents have
developed their unique blend of intellectual and industrial
productivity.
According to the 2000 Census, Iowa City is the third most educated metropolitan community in the country. More than 48 percent of Iowa City residents, age 25 years and older, have completed four or more years of college education.
