In 1984, the Iowa City Development Corporation held its first meetings to unify the local business community, the City of Iowa City, and the University of Iowa in a common mission to establish a strategy for recruiting business to the area.

Now, over 25 years later, the Iowa City Area Development Group serves its investors by using those guiding principles to expand business recruitment efforts, grow and retain existing business, enhance workforce business services, support entrepreneurial development and create collaborative partnerships throughout the region.

Creating Advantage | Investing for Results

Last year's strategic planning session produced a pioneering course of action to guide ICAD Group through its third decade of economic development.  Work is currently underway on plans and programming for FY2013.

According to a recent analysis by Chmura Economics and Analytics, each dollar invested in ICAD Group during this campaign has returned $69 in payroll dollars annually.  This directly supports local business, our community, and is contributing to state and local tax revenue.

Since beginning this campaign, ICAD Group has provided significant assistance to 27 location, expansion and retention projects, creating or retaining over 4,900 jobs, totaling $180 million in annual payroll.  Our workforce has grown by more than 8% and we still maintain one of the top ten lowest unemployment rates in the country.
