  • With more than 120 programs, Kirkwood Community College has more academic offerings than any other community college in Iowa.
  • Iowa City is home to the University of Iowa, the state's first public institution of higher learning, and the world's first university to accept creative work in theatre, writing, music and art on an equal basis with traditional academic research.
  • The Iowa City area boasts 1,305 doctors per 100,000 people, the second highest physician-to-population ratio of any city in the United States.
  • In November 2008, the United Nations designated Iowa City the world's third City of Literature.  Iowa City joins Edinburgh, Scotland and Melbourne, Australia as UNESCO Cities of Literature.
