9/15/2009Workshops to aid mature workers make career changes
The successful community partnership aimed at helping individuals ages 50 or more with a job search will offer two more workshops focusing on skills to facilitate a career change.
The 50-plus employment partnership is led the Johnson County Livable Community for Successful Aging Initiative, Iowa Workforce Development, Kirkwood Community College, Elder Services, Iowa City Area Development Group, RSVP and a group of community volunteers.
The second “50-plus Employment Workshop Part II” will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16. The workshop will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Coralville Public Library, 1405 Fifth Street. The workshop is free and targeted for mature workers seeking employment or re-employment.
Part II workshop includes Trish Thoms of Thoms Consultants and discussion of chronological and functional resumes. Presenters include Morris Pounds and Danielle Ebaugh, Kirkwood Career Center, Tips for the Adult Career Changer; Ana Gilbertson, Skills Advantage Program Director at Kirkwood Community College, and Greg Clark and Hilda Chavez from the Iowa National Career Readiness Certificate at IWD.
The Iowa National Career Readiness Certificate will be explained along with the advantages of becoming certified.
Participants will also have an opportunity to network and visit with panelists and those representing area resources at the workshop.
In consideration of library patrons, 50-plus Employment Workshop Part II participants are asked to park in areas other than the first two rows of parking.
In 2007, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors appointed a policy board for the Johnson County Livable Community for Successful Aging Initiative to further vision as a livable community where persons can grow up and grow old.
