Workforce Retention is Goal for ICAD and Priority One Alumni Events

First Happy Hour Promotes Green Jobs in the Corridor

(Iowa City)  CorridorCareers.com, in partnership with the Iowa, Iowa State, and Northern Iowa alumni associations, is sponsoring a series of networking happy hours in Cedar Rapids to connect fellow Iowans with the Corridor.  Events have been scheduled for August 20, September 17, and October 15 at Daniel Arthur’s in Cedar Rapids.

Each event will focus on a different topic and will feature growing industries and involvement opportunities in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Technology Corridor.

DaLayne Williamson, Iowa City Area Development (ICAD) Group Workforce Business Services Director says these networking events are important to introduce alums to the diversity of employers in the area.  “Partnering with the University of Iowa Alumni Association and other alumni groups fits our goal of attracting and retaining a qualified workforce in multiple ways.”

All three alumni associations are helping market these events to their local membership.

“We want to make sure local companies are ready when the economy turns around, and by making experienced job seekers aware of Corridor Careers now, we hope to connect qualified candidates with great opportunities when the time is right,” Williamson added.

The first happy hour will discuss the opportunities and growth in the Corridor area as it becomes a national leader in renewable energy efforts.  Guests include Barry Butler, professor and dean in the University of Iowa College of Engineering, Joe Raso and Mark Nolte from ICAD Group, Dennis Jordan from Priority One, and representatives from Acciona Windpower, Clipper Turbine Works, Iowa Renewable Energy Association, and Corridor Careers.

“This event is an excellent opportunity to network with the experts in green technology,” said Dennis Jordan, vice president of economic development at Priority One.  “The Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area continues to be a leader in green energy innovation, particularly in wind and ethanol production.”

All happy hours are open to the public and will feature industry and Corridor Careers representatives, networking, and complimentary appetizers provided by CorridorCareers.com.  Happy hour times will run from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. each month.  Daniel Arthur’s is located at 821 3rd Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.
