Two Career Fairs Scheduled in April

3/24/2011

Entry Level and Advanced Positions to be Offered

Area employers are invited to participate in two upcoming career fairs being held in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids next month.  The Building Blocks to Employment Job Fair is Tuesday, April 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Eastdale Plaza in Iowa City.  The inaugural 2011 CorridorWORKS Career Fair is Thursday, April 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids.

According to DaLayne Williamson, Workforce Business Services Director for ICAD Group, each fair offers unique opportunities for area employers and career seekers.

“These fairs are targeted to different audiences,” explained Williamson.  “The Building Blocks event in Iowa City is targeted to the unemployed and underemployed; those who may be looking for entry level positions.  We anticipate employers at the CorridorWORKS Career Fair to be looking for specific skill sets.”

The Building Blocks to Employment Job Fair has been offered for more than nine years and is coordinated through Iowa City’s Human Rights Commission.  Area employers are encouraged to contact the city before April 19 to secure space.  There is a $30 registration fee.  Normally more than 200 job seekers attend this fair.

The CorridorWORKS Career Fair is sponsored by Iowa’s National Career Readiness Certificate and includes multiple workforce and economic development partners throughout the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor.  This event is free and available on a first come, first serve basis.  Registration deadline is April 15 and interested employers should contact Danielle Ebaugh at Kirkwood at (319) 398-5689.  To register, click here.

“Many of our interstate commerce clients rely on these events to help identify current and potential workforce,” said Joe Raso, ICAD Group President.  “We are excited to help bring the CorridorWORKS fair to the area.”

Local partners include Coe College, Cornell College, ITT Technical Institute, Kaplan University, Kirkwood Community College, Mount Mercy University, New Horizons, University of Iowa, ICAD Group, Priority One, Lindale Mall, and IowaWORKS (formerly Iowa Workforce Development) of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
