Plans Still Underway for Fulltime IC Cowork Facility

The Iowa City Area Development Group (ICAD Group), in partnership with COWRK Iowa City and iQuest, is hosting its next Iowa City Jelly on Thursday, August 18, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the large conference room of the Iowa City Commerce Center, 325 East Washington.

Jellys are casual drop-in cowork sessions that combine creativity and productivity. Attendees can focus on their own projects, see what others are working on and make new connections. There is no fee and no agenda. Coffee, wireless internet and electrical outlets are provided free of charge.

Mark Nolte, ICAD Group Business Development Director, said ICAD Group is getting closer to opening a full-time coworking facility. “Our goal all along is for this to become a permanent working environment for our area,” said Nolte. “The future of local business development and economic growth requires people and ideas coming together and these environments help support that.”

Anyone who can work away from an office are welcome at the Jelly for fresh ideas and for a change of pace. Past participants include entrepreneurs, freelancers, designers, developers, writers, and those working online.

ICAD Group says response for coworking continues to grow regionally and Jellys have provided valuable feedback for the potential layout and operations of a fulltime facility. “Our ultimate goal is to create and link coworking facilities in the region,” added Nolte. “A new location is starting in Cedar Rapids and we hope to have our facility open this fall.”
