JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF EASTERN IOWA CONGRATULATES

THE 2016 IOWA CITY JA TITAN® CHALLENGE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

IOWA CITY, IOWA—The Iowa City JA Titan® Challenge took place Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the Kirkwood Regional Center. This day-long competition placed 62 high school juniors and seniors in the CEO seat to help increase their understanding of business while competing for college scholarships.

First place scholarship winners were Luke Becker and Nick Schnitler from City High (pictured left). The team was mentored by Kylie Pentecost of Pearson. Each student received a $1,500 scholarship for post-secondary education to the college or university of their choice. Members of the second place team were Jordain Buckland and Jared Taylor from City High (pictured below). The team was mentored by Emily Ketelsen of American Family Insurance. Each student received a $750 scholarship.

Students from three area high schools (City High, Iowa City West High School, and Regina) competed in teams of two and spent the day using Junior Achievement’s JA Titan® simulation to make key decisions while managing and operating their own virtual business. Companies (teams) were challenged to outperform the competition in profit, sales, and market share with the support of a volunteer mentor.
