Kinseth Hospitality to Bring Business Class Hotel to Marion's Central Corridor
on Friday, October 6, 2017
Marion, IA – Kinseth Hospitality is pleased to announce plans to construct an 88-room TownPlace Suites by Marriott in the heart of Marion’s Central Corridor. The $12.4 million dollar hotel is designed to appeal to extended stay travelers with features that include an on-site fitness center, swimming pool, business center, and suites with full kitchens. The four-story hotel project is anticipated to create thirty new hospitality jobs. North Liberty based Kinseth Hospitality operates more than 70 hotel properties in 10 states across the Midwest.
The hotel site (2823 7th Avenue) is the former home of Prince Agri Products, located west of 31st Street in Marion. Having served an industrial purpose for many decades, the location is now a hub for planned business, retail, and commercial development. The project is one of the first signature redevelopments within Marion’s Central Corridor. The City of Marion has completed several phases of infrastructure improvements over the past five years, setting the stage for this modern and cutting edge hotel development.
“We couldn’t be more excited to bring this Marriott TownePlace Suites hotel to Marion and be a part of the Marion community,” says Ben Kinseth, Vice President for Kinseth Hospitality. “Adding a Marriott branded hotel product is a really great fit in a growing community like Marion.”
"This will be a signature project in the redevelopment of Marion's former railroad corridor. The hotel will drive additional development at the east end of the central corridor, bringing new jobs and vitality to the area,” says Marion City Manager Lon Pluckhahn.
In 2015, developer GLD Properties LLC secured $1 million in brownfield/grayfield tax credits to support the cleanup and redevelopment of the site that was once home to industry and several abandoned railroad lines. The new hotel will be owned by Marion Hotel Associates Inc., a partnership between GLD investors Dave Drown, Adam Gibbs, and Jim Lamb as well as the Kinseth Hospitality team and a group of local business investors.
“The City of Marion and MEDCO teams provided an exceptional experience as developers and hotel operators,” says GLD partner Dave Drown. “We are confident that this community is eagerly ready to support the quality of hotel we are bringing to the Marion market.”
“Attracting a team like Kinseth speaks highly of our community’s ability to truly transform the core of Marion for the next generation,” says MEDCO President Nick Glew. “We are confident that this is just the beginning of many similar investments that will solidify Marion as the best place in Iowa to raise a family and grow a business.”
Construction is now underway with completion anticipated in Fall 2018. Representatives from Marion Economic Development Corporation will join the Marion Chamber of Commerce for an official groundbreaking on October 25th at 11:00.
