(Iowa City) The Iowa City Area Development Group (ICAD Group), in partnership with COWRK Iowa City and iQuest, is hosting its last Iowa City Jelly for 2011 on Thursday, December 15, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the large conference room of the Iowa City Commerce Center, 325 East Washington
Jellys are casual drop-in cowork sessions that combine creativity and productivity. Attendees can focus on their own projects, see what others are working on and make new connections. There is no fee and no agenda. Coffee, wireless internet and electrical outlets are provided free of charge.
ICAD Group has been evaluating numerous options for a permanent coworking location and is still weighing options, according to ICAD Group’s Business Development Director Mark Nolte.
“The process has taken a little longer than we’d hoped, but we will eventually create a permanent working environment for our area,” said Nolte. “ICAD Group is continuing to gather regional support to develop a culture of innovation and help emerging and existing companies connect and grow.”
As part of this last coworking session, ICAD Group will unveil its plans for a website to help promote and operate the fulltime facility, known as IQCoLab.
Anyone in interstate commerce who can work away from an office are welcome at the Jelly, and eventually the future space, for fresh ideas and for a change of pace. Past participants include entrepreneurs, freelancers, designers, developers, writers, and those working online. And, almost all have expressed interest in a permanent facility.
“We have most of the pieces in place for a fulltime location, except the location,” added Nolte. “The transition will be fast, so once we announce the IQCoLab, we’ll be able to apportion seats and offices to those who’ve attended our Jellys this past year.”
About Jellys
Jellys started in New York City in February 2006 when two roommates, who missed the camaraderie of a traditional office, invited others to share their apartment as a workspace. The aim was to create a creative environment that provided brainstorming, idea sharing, and conversations. Since then, Jellys have been held throughout the US and all over the world.
