Federal Stimulus Energy Program Awards Benefit IC Solar Program Among Others

Iowa Governor Chet Culver announced more than $9.36 million in federal stimulus awards made by the Office of Energy Independence. The 62 projects are expected to save Iowans $4.7 million in energy costs annually, provide nearly $33.4 million in matching funds and create or retain 328 direct jobs.

Projects were awarded in the categories of public sector, private sector, non-profit sector, training and information, innovative projects and technology demonstration. Examples of awards include:

Technology Demonstration – University of Iowa: $250,000. The university will expand its electric vehicle program with a 57 kW photovoltaic (solar) system capable of charging up to 47 electric vehicles. The project will showcase an electric car charging station with 21 parking spaces, in addition to a smart grid component.
