Liberty Communications announces the official launch of their new Fiber to the Home Network (FTTH). After three years of planning and two years of construction, the fiber network is ready for customers. Liberty Communications first announced plans to build the new network in January of 2008. Construction began in West Branch in the summer of 2008 and in late spring of 2009 in West Liberty.
Fiber to the Home networks pass just 15% of the homes on the continent, according to the Fiber to the Home Council. The Fiber-to-the-Home Council is a non-profit association consisting of providers of FTTH services and other companies involved in planning and building FTTH networks. “We are proud today to rollout this advanced fiber network to our customers. Our company history is one of reinvesting in our network as technology and the needs of our local customers change,” said Jerry Melick, Liberty Communications President. “This is a major milestone for us, one that I think completes our evolution from our telephone company past, to the future as a communication and entertainment provider. This investment in fiber has prepared our communities for the progress over the next fifty years.”
Products offered on the FTTH network have been named Fusion. With Fusion customers have access to much faster Internet speeds and additional HD capabilities than what is possible on the traditional copper network. Fusion services will be generally available only within city limits and to the neighboring subdivisions in West Branch and West Liberty. Some construction is not yet complete so call Liberty Communications to determine availability in your area. Liberty Communications is a family owned Independent telephone company serving the communities of West Branch and West Liberty, Iowa, and their surrounding areas with phone, Internet and DTV service since 1908.
