Regional Luncheon on International Workforce Scheduled
9/23/2010H-1B visas and work authorization visas to be discussed
The Iowa City Area Development Group (ICAD Group) is hosting an informational luncheon for local companies interested in learning more about navigating the H-1B visa process for hiring foreign talent.
The luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, October 26, 2010, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Iowa City Commerce Center Building. Kimberly Blakenship, from Bradley & Riley PC, will provide information regarding H-1B and other foreign work authorization visas.
“Each year local interstate commerce companies, especially smaller firms, tell us about the difficulties they have with the H-1B visa process,” said Joe Raso, ICAD Group President. “Companies are challenged to fill specialty positions, the University already draws highly skilled and knowledgeable international talent, but companies’ hands are tied due to the complexity of the process.”
Hiring managers, human resource departments and business executives are all encouraged to attend. During the luncheon Blakenship will detail the process, timetables and costs of hiring and retaining foreign talent. Additionally, she will give an overview of the forms and requirements of these programs.
“With so many companies now operating globally, this luncheon can contribute to the growth of our region,” added Raso.
DaLayne Williamson, ICAD Group Workforce Services Director, has fielded numerous questions about this topic. “Companies can create high quality, high paying jobs right now, with qualified applicants who want to live here and work here. But the process is so daunting; our clients can only offer internships or temporary research positions.”
Cost to attend the event is $20; $10 for ICAD Group investors. Admission includes the lunch and all materials. Reservations are required. Call ICAD Group at (319) 354-3939 or register online at www.icadgroup.com/visa by Friday, October 22nd.
