Eastern Iowa Airport to Renovate Ticket Area

It was announced that $50 million in I-JOBS Bridge Safety Fund projects, as well as other transportation investments, have been approved by the Iowa Transportation Commission.
One of the provisions of I-JOBS was establishment of the Bridge Safety Fund, administered by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT). Appropriated to this fund is $50 million to be used for infrastructure projects relating to functionally obsolete and structurally deficient bridges on the Primary Highway System. This system includes 4,092 bridges/structures, of which 232 were classified as structurally deficient and 311 as functionally obsolete as of April 1.
The Commercial Service Vertical Infrastructure program will provide $1.5 million for projects at all eight Iowa commercial service airports. This program provides funding for the maintenance and development of airport facilities, such as terminal buildings, maintenance facilities and aviation hangars.
Included in the awards was funding to renovate a the airline ticket office area in the terminal building at The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. The $550,000 project will receive $319,672 in I-JOBS funding.
The Airport Improvement Program, funded with revenues from aircraft registration fees and aviation fuel taxes, will fund airfield and security projects totaling more than $1.6 million at 27 airports. Awards include $182,155 to help fund a $214,300 project at the Iowa City Municipal Airport to rehabilitate a taxi lane and apron pavement and to improve taxi lane drainage. Another $80,750 will help fund a $95,000 project at The Eastern Iowa Airport to rehabilitate a runway.
