Kalona Hires News City Administrator
9/18/2009Worked for Both Pearson and Heartland
From the Kalona News
Kalona native Ryan Schlabaugh said he is very excited to having been appointed city administrator for his hometown. Schlabaugh will assume the reins after retiring Doug Morgan's last day on September 30.
Ryan will be leaving Pearson Educational Measurement where he worked 3 ½ years as a senior logistics manager, managing the flow of assessment materials for students kindergarten through 12th grade and college.
Before Pearson, Schlabaugh worked as a regional manager for Heartland Express out of North Liberty, where he managed Midwest regional customer service representatives, planning representatives and off-shift terminal coverage.
Schlabaugh graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in May with a B.A. degree in public administration, with emphasis on economics and finance. He is now working on his master's degree in public administration.
He noted that he interned 2007 with Kalona working on the city's Capital Improvement Plan, which includes the scheduling for the purchasing and replacement of "big ticket" items. He will now be heading up this effort.
Schlabaugh said one goal he does have is to create a website for the city that would function as a repository of city information - from snow removal information and committee members to meeting agendas and minutes.
