Social Media Networking Workshop April 20
4/1/2011Learn How to Master LinkedIn as a Networking Tool
Social media plays an important role for job seekers, but many don’t know how to navigate the world of networking online. The Iowa City Area Development (ICAD) Group is presenting a workshop on social media and networking for area job seekers Wednesday, April 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Iowa City Public Library.
The 90 minute workshop, titled “Mastering Networking to Further Your Career: LinkedIn as a Social Media Tool” will be held upstairs in the library computer lab and will be hosted by Bill Humbert and Margie Peskin.
The event is free and does not require preregistration. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop.
Humbert is the author of the recently published “Recruiterguy’s Guide to Finding a Job” and the website www.recruiterguy.com. He has been a recruitment consultant since 1981. Margie Peskin has more than eleven years of recruiting, placement and advising experience. She specializes in job search strategies, resume critiques, and interview preparation through her company www.search-forward.com.
"Everyone is a prospective candidate for networking. We all need to meet someone to propel our career or business forward,” said Humbert. “I am thrilled when I am able to introduce two people who become wildly successful as a result of that introduction."
Peskin agreed that networking is a must for career success. “Whether you are identifying a mentor or finding job opportunities, creating and sustaining a robust network will help you meet your goals,” added Peskin.
The workshop coincides with two job fairs in the Corridor the following week: the Building Blocks to Employment Job Fair is Tuesday, April 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Eastdale Plaza in Iowa City. The inaugural 2011 CorridorWORKS Career Fair is Thursday, April 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lindale Mall in Cedar Rapids.
