Small Business Person and Journalist of the Year Both from the Corridor

Two Corridor businesses will receive awards during National Small Business Week in May. The week of May 17, the Small Business Administration (SBA) will celebrate the nation's 25 million small businesses with awards.

In Iowa, the SBA has named Corridor Media Group President John Lohman as Small Business Person of the Year. Mr. Lohman, who serves as publisher of the Corridor Business Journal, is recognized for the company's success in the face of challenges.  The company was started in the basement of Mr. Lohman's North Liberty home in 2004 and has grown from four employees to 19, with the flagship weekly Corridor Business Journal now reaching a readership of 10,000 and anchoring a range of print and online products like CorridorBuzz.com.

As the 2009 Iowa Small Business Person of the Year, Mr. Lohman will represent Iowa at National Small Business Week ceremonies in Washington, D.C., May 17-19, where he will compete for the National Award.

KCRG-TV9 of Cedar Rapids also was recognized with an award, earning Iowa Small Business Journalist of the Year.  The station, represented by News Director Rebecca Lutgen Gardner, was recognized as a source of daily business news and was singled out for its coverage of the 2008 flood.
