Second Military Workforce Event Scheduled November 12
9/29/2009Valuable Information for Hiring Managers and HR Directors
The Iowa City Area Development Group, Priority One, CorridorCareers.com, Iowa Workforce Development, and the Employer Council of Iowa present a luncheon for local employers, business owners and HR professionals about the value of hiring military service members.
“Military to Civilian Transition 2” is scheduled for Thursday, November 12, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new BioVentures Building in the University of Iowa Research Park. The event is free, but pre-registration is required.
This luncheon will update area employers on new military hiring initiatives and activity in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor since our “Value of a Veteran” event in March.
The program will include Bob Burns, Dean of Students, Kirkwood Community College; John Mikelson, University of Iowa Veterans Center; Brenda Dodge, Workforce Manager and Greg Clark, Veterans Representative with Iowa Workforce Development, and presentations from local employers about transitioning military service members into the civilian workplace.
During the program, companies can connect with local and state resources to help with future workforce strategies. For example, both Kirkwood and the University of Iowa made the G.I. Job’s 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools in August. Iowa Workforce Development has a Local Veteran Employment Representative available to coordinate certain services such as testing, training, and employment opportunities.
Registration is available now through www.corridorcareers.com/militaryevent.
