Rockwell Collins named DiversityInc’s “Top Company for Community Development”

Rockwell Collins has been named DiversityInc magazine's second annual "Top Company for Community Development." The company's Chairman, President and CEO Clay Jones accepted the award in Washington, D.C.

"Our community involvement extends across an array of diversity initiatives," said Sue Nelson, director of Diversity for Rockwell Collins. "We're honored to be recognized for our efforts, and we will continue our focus to create inclusive communities where we work and live."

Rockwell Collins was honored for its efforts to form Diversity Focus, a Cedar Rapids non-profit organization whose goal is to increase diversity and cultural competence in Eastern Iowa through education, programming and connecting people. The company's support of educational efforts through Engineering Experiences - its group of targeted programs to introduce at-risk students to science and engineering education and careers also were recognized, as well as its active support of diversity resource groups and non-profits that work to attract more diverse talent into the engineering and technology professions.

The DiversityInc awards recognize companies with exceptional diversity-management achievements in specific areas. The evaluation goes beyond the numerical assessment of the publication's "Top 50 Companies for Diversity" list to include an analytical look at their diversity and inclusion programs. Companies are then selected based on DiversityInc's knowledge of their diversity initiatives after a decade of collecting and analyzing in-depth diversity-management data.

Earlier this year, Rockwell Collins was named to the 2010 DiversityInc "25 Noteworthy Companies for Diversity" list for the third consecutive year.
