ICAD Group’s New Existing Industry Surveys Show Recovery and Growth in Area

The latest existing industry survey conducted by the Iowa City Area Development (ICAD) Group shows steady employment growth among interstate commerce companies operating in our area. The survey, conducted during the second quarter of 2010, included employment and other data from seventy-two companies. Over the past year, interstate commerce firms in the ICAD Group service territory added back 760 of the 1,370 jobs lost between 2008-2009. These employers had a combined full time employment level of 13,425; a 6% increase in employment from this time last year. Large industrial customers of MidAmerican Energy Company, an operating utility of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, have rated the company high for customer satisfaction, according to TQS Research.

U.S. News Ranks UI 29th Best Public National University

The University of Iowa is the 29th best public national university in the country, according to the latest rankings published by the magazine U.S. News & World Report. The ranking places the UI in a tie with the Colorado School of Mines and the University of California–Santa Cruz. The UI's placement in the 2011 edition of the magazine's "The Top 50 Public National Universities" compares to a ranking of 29th in the 2010 edition, 26th in 2009, 24th in 2008 and 25th in 2007. The UI currently is ranked 72nd in the "Best National Universities" category, which contains 262 U.S. universities (164 public and 98 private), compared to 71st last year.

Two Corridor Leaders Join ICAD Group Board

During the first board meeting of the FY2011 fiscal year, Ken Kates, Associate Vice President and Chief Executive Officer for University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Tim Bradshaw, Airport Director for the Eastern Iowa Airport were appointed to the ICAD Group Board of Directors.

ICAD Group Hosting Annual Luncheon and Meeting September 15

The Iowa City Area Development (ICAD) Group will host its annual luncheon and meeting on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Iowa City Hotel. Richard Longworth, a senior fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and author of the book Caught in the Middle: America's Heartland in the Age of Globalism, will be the featured speaker.
