KemPharm, Inc. Receives Patent for KP201

KemPharm, Inc., a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of new, safer therapies to treat pain, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued U.S. Patent No. 8,461,137 to KemPharm for its patent application entitled, "Benzoic Acid, Benzoic Acid Derivatives and Heteroaryl Carboxylic Acid Conjugates of Hydrocodone, Prodrugs, Methods of Making and Use Thereof."

The patent, which extends through 2031, provides composition of matter protection for benzhydrocodone, a novel prodrug of hydrocodone.

Benzhydrocodone, the USAN designation for KP201, is in development for the treatment of acute moderate to moderately severe pain with a new drug application (NDA) expected to be filed in the second quarter of 2014.

Regional Existing Industry Program Announced

The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance and the Iowa City Area Development Group announce today a three-year agreement to share a full-time employee for existing industry services. Allison Antes, who presently works for the Economic Alliance, will begin this new role June 1.

Antes’ primary responsibility will be to connect with more than 150 interstate commerce companies in Iowa’s Creative Corridor, gathering company data and leadership perspective on doing business in this region.

Bandwidth Pool Approved for Iowa Demonstration Fund Award

The Iowa Economic Development Authority announced Friday, May 17, 2013, that Bandwidth Pool, self-described as the ‘eBay’ for business Internet access, has been awarded $100,000 from the Iowa Demonstration Fund.

“So many companies are unaware of the array of Internet providers serving their area and the money they could save,” added Anderson. “Bandwidth Pool creates an environment online where Internet providers bid for business.”

The Bandwidth Pool application was submitted with sponsorship from the Iowa City Area Development Group.

Coralville City Engineer Recognized for Brownfields Work

Coralville City Engineer Dan Holderness has been named a Brownfields Leadership Award recipient for local brownfield revitalization from the National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals.

Holderness, Coralville’s City Engineer for 26 years, has successfully managed 11 EPA Brownfields Assessment Grants valued at over $1.8 million.

Iowa’s Creative Corridor Announces Contract with Site Location Partnership

The Iowa City Area Development Group and the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance have entered into an agreement for targeted industry attraction services with Site Location Partnership, a Dallas-based corporate site selection and economic development consulting firm.

SLP will help market the new brand for Iowa’s Creative Corridor through participation in industry trade shows and engagement with companies considering expansion and relocation. SLP’s Economic Development Practice will provide targeted industry business attraction services, site selector appointment setting, website promotion, interactive marketing, and trade show representation.
