Former KCRG anchor/reporter to begin in February

Scott Sanborn has been hired as director of the Tipton Economic Development Corporation (TEDCO), according to Mike Pelzer, chairperson of the Tipton Development Commission.

“We are excited to have Scott join our team,” said Pelzer.  “We were impressed by his knowledge of our area and its challenges and his pledge to work closely with our business community.”

Jeff Meyer, TEDCO President echoed Pelzer’s comments, enthusiastically welcoming Sanborn to his new position and the Tipton community.  “Scott possesses the media, marketing and management experience to communicate that Tipton is a special place to work and live,” said Meyer.

Sanborn was selected from approximately 65 applicants.  He is expected to begin work the first week of February and will work locally with the economic development organization, the Tipton Chamber and the city, as well as with regional economic development partners.

“I am excited about the opportunity to join such a vibrant, growing community and be part of the team that will help take Tipton into the future,” said Sanborn.  “With so many opportunities for small businesses, families and quality of life, Tipton truly has a story to tell and I look forward to telling it.”

Joe Raso, President of the Iowa City Area Development Group (ICAD Group) expects Sanborn to have a busy year ahead.  “We’ve been working closely with Tipton to certify parts of their business park as shovel ready,” said Raso.  “Scott is coming into a very dedicated community that has the infrastructure in place for new primary sector development.”

TEDCO owns approximately 75 acres of property, with many available for immediate development.  ICAD Group will honor part of this property on the south edge of the city with the area’s first third-party “Shovel Ready” certification later this spring.
