9/21/2011Employers Encouraged to Reserve Space Before End of September
A Veteran’s Job and Resource Fair will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Iowa National Guard Armory Complex, 4540 Melrose Avenue, in Iowa City. The event is open to the public and will provide opportunities for all job seekers to meet with employers as well as veterans to speak with local service and resource providers.
Space is available for businesses looking for highly skilled, motivated candidates with strong leadership skills. A limited amount of tables are provided. Cost is $50 with pre-registration and prepayment required.
To learn more and to reserve space, visit www.icadgroup.com/vetjobfair or contact Grant Elliot at IowaWORKS at (319) 351-1035.
“We hear that businesses are looking for candidates with leadership qualities and real world experiences. Veterans provide both,” said Brenda Dodge, Operations Director of the IowaWORKS Center in Iowa City. “This event is a great opportunity to find talented people.”
DaLayne Williamson, Workforce Business Services Director for the Iowa City Area Development (ICAD) Group, is hearing similar needs from employers she works with. “The Skills 2014 report that was published a few months back shows that local employers are concerned about new and replacement workers missing basic and occupational skills,” said Williamson. “We encourage business owners, hiring managers and HR directors to put this fair on their calendar. This is the perfect opportunity to meet with exceptional candidates.”
The event is sponsored in part by IowaWORKS, Kirkwood Community College, the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Kaplan University, the Employers’ Council of Iowa, ITT Technical Institute, Iowa City Area Development Group, the Press Citizen, and Clear Channel Radio.
