New Workforce Webinar Series Scheduled
2/1/2011Four Part Series on Employing Former Military Members for Business Owners, Hiring Managers, and HR Directors
Later this year, the state of Iowa expects to welcome back almost 3,000 soldiers from tours of duty around the world. When these soldiers return home, will local employers be ready?
Business owners, hiring managers and HR directors are encouraged to register for a four-part webinar series about HR issues surrounding our soldiers, military members and veterans. This series, beginning March 1, will feature Lisa Rosser, founder of The Value of a Veteran and thevalueofaveteran.com.
“Iowa employers have shown tremendous support of those who have served and a willingness to educate themselves so they can overcome challenges to hiring military,” said Rosser. “This unique opportunity provides actionable tips and techniques for improving recruitment of veterans.”
Rosser’s military career spans several decades, 3 continents, and 4 major deployments. She helps companies improve their recruiting and retention programs for diverse employee populations. During the webinar, Rosser will cover topics such as translating the military resume, where to find veterans, and the business case for hiring military members.
Each webinar lasts 90 minutes and starts at 8:30 a.m. The series is $25; free for members of sponsoring organizations. Registration will be available through www.iashrm.org/webinar later this week (by February 4, 2011).
The webinar series is a collaborative partnership among local economic development agencies, regional and state HR chapters, and agencies working with the Iowa National Guard and Reserve. The Iowa City Area Development Group, Priority One, Eastern Iowa Human Resources Association, Employers’ Council of Iowa, Vangent, the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and the Iowa SHRM State Council are all sponsoring the series.
This is the third military-focused event sponsored by these agencies in as many years.
Rosser noted that some of these organizations are coupling the webinars with networking events featuring veteran talent resources from across Iowa. In the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area, webinar ‘watch events’ have been scheduled at the new Iowa City National Guard Armory. Local speakers and networking opportunities will be provided each morning after Rosser’s presentation. More information is available by clicking here.
